Belly Laughs

OK, so this is me at 27 weeks prego. My cousin, Kristina Whitman, is a fabulous photographer, and I was very eager to document the ever enlarging belly. So she graciously agreed to shoot me--with a camera.
Now, three weeks later, I am so HUGE that every time I leave the house, I come home with a new collection of funny comments I have received from strangers about the size of my pregnant belly! When asked, I tell people I am not due until December. I am given shocked looks that quickly turn to pity, or the most common--"oooohhhhh" followed by silence. The best one has to be a lady I met while with my daughter at the playland in the mall. While comparing due dates, she remarked, "Wow, you are bigger than me, and I am three days over-due!" And then there was, "That sure is going to be a good-sized baby!" And my 9 year-old neighbor who innocently exclaimed, "Baby Soren sure... is... BIG!" I had to thank him for blaming it on the baby and not on me. I have to admit though, I don't mind. I love "the belly." Even through all the uncomfortable nights, hot days, penguin waddles, and funny comments-- I love it!

The Rock & Shop Market in June was rockin! A fascinating array of local and national artists' goods, in a relaxed, fun venue in downtown Raleigh. If you missed it, you need to come next year. I had the privilege of being invited to display Tailored Tadpole products and had a blast!

The highlight of my day was seeing a shopper carrying a baby on her hip and a very cool burp cloth in her hand. I instantly recognized it as one of the first burpies I designed! When she reached our booth, she told me that she had bought several items from a previous show, intending to use them for gifts. Then, she found out she was expecting a baby and ended up keeping it all for herself!
It was a very cool feeling to run into someone loving my designs and see them using and benefiting from them. So...I thought some others of you out there in cyberspace may have a story, comment, or snapshot of your kiddo loving Tailored Tadpole. If you do, I would love to hear about it. I will post them here for all to read or keep them to myself, whichever you prefer. :) I look forward to hearing from you!!

Pregnancy Brain Drain

This little tidbit is for all of you who doubt the existence of “pregnancy brain.” My husband swears it is a phenomenon I have invented and am the only one in the world who suffers from this imaginary affliction. As if the detailed lists he finds around the house are not proof enough. Or the calls he receives when I find myself driving through town with not a clue as to where I am going or why I left the house!

So now, in the fifth month of my pregnancy, things have escalated to the point of having to write them down as I say them, just to keep myself on track! A few days ago, while on the phone with the hospital records department, I had to spell my ex-husband’s last name. Sitting at my desk, I doodled the name one time on a paper as I spelled it to the secretary. Hanging up, I looked down, shocked to see the name written there. Quickly, I scribbled it out and left the office, thinking no more of it.

Later when my husband came home from work, he came to me and said, “miss your old last name, do you?” It took me some seconds to figure out where that came from and then I kicked in my old standby—“pregnancy brain, dear! I am not even aware of what I am doing half the time!” Of course, he denied the validity of my claim but we had a good laugh.
